The University of Vermont Medical Center was recently ranked as โhigh performingโ for its heart failure care by ย U.S. News and World Report, one of the largest service news and information platforms.
More than 4,500 hospitals were evaluated with only 10 percent receiving the โhigh performing” rating, according to a news release from UVM Medical Center.
U.S. News and World Report analyzed the cardiovascular care of more than 3.6 million people nationwide and found UVM Medical Center was among โa small percentage of hospitals that have superior outcomes compared with their peer institutions,โ according to a statement from its director of health analyses.
UVM Health Network, a four-hospital system that includes UVM Medical Center in Burlington and Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin — as well as two hospitals in northern New York — has made improving cardiac care a priority in the last five years.
John Brumsted, the networkโs CEO, said last Novemberย that realigning how cardiovascular services are delivered is improving outcomes and reducing costs.
The network’s ability to treat patients closer to home, while giving them access to specialized care in Burlington as needed, has contributed to more than $6 million in savings, with the rest coming from supply chain purchases, he said.
