Sen. Patrick Leahy has recommended Burlington attorney Eric Miller to serve as Vermont’s next U.S. District Attorney, according to a news release.

Miller, 45, would replace Tristram Coffin, who returned to private practice last month after six years as U.S. Attorney.

Miller has worked since 1999 in the Burlington office of the law firm Sheehey Furlong & Behm PC, serving as partner since 2002, the release said. He has a law degree from Yale University and an undergraduate degree from Duke University.

“I have been impressed with the thoughtfulness, vision, and depth of experience that Eric Miller has demonstrated throughout his career,” Leahy said in a statement. “Eric is one of Vermont’s leading trial attorneys. He is well regarded by state and local law enforcement agencies and leaders in Vermont’s legal community. Eric is eminently qualified to be the top Federal law enforcement officer in Vermont, and I am proud to recommend him to serve as Vermont’s next U.S. Attorney.”

Miller’s nomination must be approved by President Barack Obama.
