The state will receive $200,000 from a $3.8 million national settlement with Sirius XM Radio Inc. over misleading advertising and billing claims.

The complaint alleged that customers of the satellite radio provider had difficulty canceling contracts, had difficulty obtaining refunds and were charged unauthorized fees, among other claims, according to a news release from the Vermont Attorney General’s Office. The settlement also requires Sirius XM to change some of its business practices, AG Bill Sorrell said.

The settlement covers transactions that took place between July 28, 2008, and Dec. 4, 2014.

Consumers who have not previously filed a complaint with Vermont’s Consumer Assistance Program have until May 1 to file a complaint, the release said. Complaints must describe an identifiable loss that has not been resolved. They can be filed here. Customers may contact Sirius XM by mail at PO Box 33059, Detroit MI 48232-5059.
