Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont announced Tuesday that its Web tools for small business users are now online.
Businesses with 50 or fewer employees are required to purchase qualified health plans under the Affordable Care Act, but because the Vermont Health Connect exchange can’t accept business customers, the insurers are stepping in.
Small businesses will purchase insurance directly from the carriers, Blue Cross and MVP Health Care, during the upcoming open enrollment period that begins Nov. 15.
Blue Cross, which serves 92 percent of exchange customers, will offer full employee choice this year, and has created a website that employers can use to securely enter their employees’ information and plan choices.
Businesses renewing coverage with Blue Cross will have current employees and their plan choices pre-populated in the system and can make adjustments for 2015 online. Employers that do not need to make changes will have their group’s coverage renewed automatically.
There are also online tools for employees to find and compare the 2015 plans.
For more information on the exchange plans offered by Blue Cross employers can call (800) 255-4550 or email them at exchangeteam@bcbsvt.com.
