Former Democratic Majority Whip Tess Taylor, will leave her current position with single-payer advocacy group Vermont Coalition for Universal Reform (Vermont CURE) after the Nov. 4 election.
Taylor, a three-term representative from Barre, resigned from the legislature in March to join the group.
Bram Kleppner, chair of the Vermont CURE board, told Vermont Public Radio that Taylor was hired to organize efforts to elect single-payer friendly candidates to the legislature.
A well funded campaign to oppose those candidates never emerged, and as a result the group has shifted its focus to winning public support for single-payer.
Taylor and the board agreed that she did not have expertise in that type of public relations campaign, and she recently stepped down as the group’s executive director.
Vermont CURE got $100,000 in seed funding from Vermont chapter of the American Federation of Teachers. As a 501(c)4, the group is not required to make its donors public, and has declined to do so since revealing the AFT funding last March.
