The Senate on Monday gave final approval to a bill designed to help children whose parents are incarcerated.

The bill calls for a study to examine what services already exist for those families and what should be added.

Parent-child visits, parenting classes and how to use “family-centered” strategies throughout the criminal justice system are among topics to be studied, the bill says.

The proposal also asks the Department for Children and Families and the Department of Corrections to look for ways to coordinate services.

H.325 originally proposed a bill of rights for children with incarcerated parents, but House lawmakers reduced the scope of the legislation to a study.
