VTDigger’s Twitter account was hacked this morning with a direct message that read: You seen what this person is saying about you? terrible things.

This message went to about 60 of our 1,803 followers. The following image is what the Twitter generated emails look like:

We were able to stop the direct message from continuing to be sent out to other followers by reporting the hack to Twitter and resetting the password. We were then sent to a Twitter account labeled “irect.” As soon as we tried to Tweet, we were temporarily locked out of our Twitter account. We reported the hacking incident a second time and then reset the password again. This time we were successfully able to get back into Twitter and Tweet to our followers that we had been hacked.

If you clicked on the link in the message, your account will likely have been hacked. Hopefully, you can try reporting the incident and reset your password.

We are sorry to have inadvertently passed along this nasty Twitter bug.

We weren’t the only ones, however, the germ has gone global — news organizations in New Zealand have also been hacked.
