Rasmussen Reports has officially declared the race between Democratic Sen. Peter Shumlin and Republican Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie a tossup. Shumlin is ahead by 3 points; the margin of error is 4.5 percent.

Since the last poll was conducted in June, Shumlin’s rating has jumped 13 points. Here is what the pollster has to say about Vermont’s gubernatorial race:

The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey shows Shumlin, the state Senate president pro tempore, picking up 49% of the vote, while Dubie draws support from 46%. Two percent (2%) prefer some other candidate, and three percent (3%) are undecided.

This survey was conducted four days after the announcement of Shumlinโ€™s recount victory.

In mid-June, Shumlin was one of the weaker Democratic candidates out of four matched against Dubie. At that time, Dubie led Shumlin 55% to 36%. In the first Rasmussen Reports survey of the race in March, Dubie held a similar 51% to 33% lead over Shumlin.
