ALBANY โ The proposed Lowell Mountain wind project won a split decision at a special Town Meeting here last week.
One hundred voters crowded the town hall to decide that Albany should seek party status when the project is considered by the state Public Service Board.
But in a second vote, they decided not to oppose the project.
As interpreted by Moderator Marcellus Cubit, the 45 to 56 defeat of a motion to oppose the project doesnโt mean that Albany supports the Lowell wind project. The consensus at the meeting was that, with party status, the town could weigh in on issues that affect its residents, like water pollution.
The practical effect of the decision to seek party status, however, was put in some doubt when voters turned down a $25,000 assessment to fund that effort.
