Search crews recovered a body believed to be that of a St. Albans man from Lake Champlain near the Rouses Point Bridge.

The body, preliminarily identified as that of Andrew Lynch, 42, of St. Albans, was recovered at about 7 p.m. Wednesday will be transported to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington for an autopsy to determine cause and manner of death.

Police and rescue crews had been searching since Tuesday when Lynch’s family reported him missing, and a man was seen going into the lake near the bridge, according to a press release from police. The bridge is located between Alburgh and Rouses Point, New York. His car was located in a parking area on the Vermont side of the bridge.

Vermont State Police and local law enforcement agencies resumed a search for the man midday Wednesday after suspending it Tuesday night. The search was supposed to resume at 9 a.m. but high winds on the lake kept rescuers on shore. Searchers focused on the area north of the bridge because of wind and water currents.
