The Shapovalov family, of Ukraine, and the Cianciolos, from Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom, have been friends for years. Together, and with overwhelming community support, they’ve now converted a shuttered nursing home into housing for more than 30 Ukrainians fleeing the war.
After escaping the battlefield, one Ukrainian family has found purpose assisting Agape Ministries in renovating a shuttered nursing home to house others similarly displaced.
Theresa and Scott Cianciolo run Agape Ministries, a faith-based nonprofit that primarily supports children with disabilities and their families. They were prepared to bring over a family of eight when their plans suddenly changed.
