Candidate occupation
Education and Real Estate
Why are you running for office?
Improving democracy – via more strong 3rd-party choices
Improving discourse – by speaking out fearlessly
If elected, or finishing in double-digits, the three largest goals are
Ending wokeness,
returning us to American values, and
removing every regulation not voted on by Congress, and every law that violates the U.S. Constitution.
If we can’t do this by decade’s end, and America then stands for nothing, we might as well break up. That’s a very viable “Plan B” – where enclaves across America choose their local style of governance and are protected by a minimalist nation-wide (or maybe Continent-wide) military and court system. Our U.S. Constitution is not far off from this libertarian ideal, we just need to FOLLOW the Constitution and not let leaders usurp power over us.
Issues in depth
What is the single most important issue for Congress to address next term?
Narrowly, it’s creating sensible immigration. Broadly, it’s respect Article I, the powers of Congress. Constitutional governance is overdue. It is also the best way to mend the colossal political divide. This means governing MINIMALLY. A good US Senate would keep the President and itself from enforcing every regulation not DIRECTLY voted on by Congress; a very good US Senate would remove every law that violates Article I Sec 8. This leave states, and better yet, localities to legislate for themselves, for what the majority (ideally a super-majority) want. Many localities will adopt similar rules for business, for education, for property use, for social welfare. Those uniform, common adoptions are a CHOICE. But no state or locality should be FORCED into subjection. For the narrow realm of federal laws that are Constitutional…enforce them.
What steps, if any, would you take to strengthen American democracy?
1) Campaign to remove every Democrat currently “serving” in Congress. Make people aware that the “nice friendly faces” of their elected Democrats have ALL gone along with Biden’s predations against free speech, choice in health care, choice in education, choice in retirement security, and choice in social welfare. NONE has objected to federal moves that permit trans-ing children; not has stood against paying people who don’t want to work none has stood against fleecing taxpayers to pay the loans of favored ex-student groups, many of whom are now lawyers. NONE has raised a peep about Biden personally getting rich illicitly; none has called out media when they blatantly lie. And do NOT forget that not one elected Democrat Congressman stood against the firings of good military personnel who didn’t feel comfortable taking their mandated vaccine.
That’s sufficient for this decade. A party that railroads Americans to ensure its own power deserves to be forced to re-tool. They should read Jefferson, and ACT with the values of Jefferson, Frederick Douglass, MLK, and to a large extent JFK.
We’re better off with a Parliamentary system. Three or more influential parties guarantees better representation.
How would you seek to work with members of the opposite party, if at all?
In the remarkable event that an unknown, unfunded, independent upstart wins a plurality of the vote…both major parties will feel COMPELLED to work with us. It will show the world that the people’s sentiments are with us. Parties will need to return to Jeffersonian governance or they will lose even more seats. Our victory won’t owe to pedigree, party, resume, or telegenics, just good ideas. THAT’s how we change all of Congress, and improve the world.
What changes to federal tax policy, if any, would you seek to make?
We do not need an Income Tax on individuals. The feds have 33 other ways to raise revenue; a tax on income is the most immoral one. Courts and Defense should be the only major spending we do, and that can be accomplished to 1/5th what we spend today. Because rights to clean water and air are so hard to enforce by single families, environmental protection could become a wise area for federal control and spending, but NOT UNTIL allowed by a Constitutional amendment. To the extent the fed need revenue, my preferred methods of taxation are
- user fees
- lotteries (including an immigration lottery that collects $ worldwide)
- income tax on non-citizens
- inheritance tax (graduated upon an unexpected death)
- import tax protecting nascent or sensitive industries
- broadcast spectrum fees
On a 10-year phase-out, we should keep the corporate income tax. It’s a privilege for limited liability, and, until our 200,000 professional accountants and tax lawyers can transition to consulting or other work, it’s a buffer against their fast demise.
If for some reason, Congress is immoral enough to spend more than the above revenue streams bring in, then a wealth tax on real property and vessels. Do NOT indebt our kids.
What, if anything, should Congress do to make it more affordable to live in the U.S.?
End corporate welfare. Stop interfering with markets. The free market is the best creator of wealth. Stop protecting favored industries and groups. There is very little more we need to do to reduce prices. Now…what NO ELECTED DEMOCRAT speaks about is the other side of ‘affordability”: increasing net income. We can do this with better education and better values. “Acting Asian” is a very good thing for families that want to prosper. Democrats need to focus on making Americans richer.
We can make housing more affordable by reducing land use restrictions. That’s not a U>S. senate issue, and certainly shouldn’t be a Kamala Harris policy. This is LOCAL. There’s also an attitude aspect. Families whose earnings are low might need to be in small homes. Three kids in a bedroom was once normal, until wealthy enough, that is how families make do. As for singles, shared housing makes sense. Both of us lived in dorms at one point, be willing to take down-style housing until you can sustain yourself without asking for government welfare.
What steps, if any, should Congress take to address climate change?
None, until the Constitution is amended to permit congressional action.
What steps, if any, should Congress take to reform the American health care system?
Use the Free market. Let Social Security and Medicare be OPTIONAL, whereby a young adult who shows early self-responsibility can opt out and SAVE HER OWN WAY. Her money may be better used for a mortgage, building a business, getting a graduate degree, or just plain having a vacation. If 50 years from now she is impoverished and can’t pay for the care she opted out of, she then has third-tier “Mother Theresa” care. But rarely will a responsible young adult turn so irresponsible later. Give the youth more opportunities with their money instead of taking it from them. (See also, above, “making Americans richer”).
What role, if any, should the U.S. play in the war in Gaza?
Almost nothing. Stay out of fighting there. Help deport 100% of the hateful Gazans to islands far from Israel. Indonesia, a Muslim nation,, has 15000 uninhabited islands. On one, two, or three of them, Gazans can build anew. Three generations of hatred, spurred currently by UNRWA, will not become benign. Go to nations that will have you (that currently is zero) or be in the cross-fire and bombings your Hamas leaders impel. Until they surrender, these leaders imperil you.
What role, if any, should the U.S. play in the war in Ukraine?
Nothing except welcome the good people who choose to leave (See “sensible Immigration” at www.stewartforliberty.com. Ukraine has be)en governed by mendacious takers who collectively have been as rapacious as Putin. My grandparents hailed from Kiev, so there is an emotional tie. But Eastern Ukraine in Russian government control, or even ALL Ukraine in Russian government control is not our business.
