Biography

Bruce Roy is a long time Vermont resident, graduating from Essex Junction High School and the University of Vermont.   After a four year tour on USAF active duty, he returned to Vermont joining IBM as an engineer and continuing his military service as a member of the Vermont Air National Guard.  Bruce had successful 30 year careers at both organizations, retiring as a Colonel from the Green Mountain Boys in 2008, and an accomplished business leader from IBM in 2013.

Mr. Roy was also an elected member of the Essex Junction School Board, and a 10+ year Computer Science instructor at the Community College of VT.

Colonel Roy has been a Williston resident since 2001 when he and his wife Cindy built a home on Martel Hill while he was called to active Air Force duty immediately upon the horrendous events of September 11th.

Why are you running for office?

I am alarmed at the lack of balance, cooperation, and compromise in the Vermont legislature. It has led Vermont to the status quo of unchecked state spending and increasing tax burden, making living here unaffordable for residents and inhospitable to businesses.  The current supermajority does not work with the Governor or listen to Vermont citizens on a host of topics.   Honest and fair discussions rarely occur in our statehouse. Veto overrides of Governor Scott happen regularly without regard to his common sense ideas. Back to back $8.6B budgets and the recent double digit property tax increase are evidence of failure to comprehend, collaborate, and compromise for Vermont’s future.

To do a course correction of spending and taxation, it is critical to restore common sense and balance in our legislature, and specifically in the Chittenden County delegation.

As a fiscal conservative and social moderate, I will focus on the responsible use of taxpayers’ dollars and supporting Governor Scott in his efforts to do the same.  I am offering Chittenden County voters a clear choice for change in Montpelier.
