Another Progressive Burlington city councilor has announced they won’t run for reelection: Jane Stromberg, the first-term Ward 8 representative.

Stromberg announced her decision in a Wednesday evening tweet, saying she wanted “to focus on my mental health and give myself the time to recharge.”

The news comes after Council President Max Tracy, P-Ward 2, said he wouldn’t seek a sixth term because of time constraints related to his day job.

On the council, Stromberg paid special attention to climate and public safety issues. She served on the mayor’s committee to hire a new permanent police chief, before resigning from the body, calling it “probably one of the most corrupt things I have ever seen this city take part in.”

With Stromberg bowing out, the seat could fall back into Democratic hands. Hannah King, a University of Vermont senior, has already secured the Democratic nomination.

Before Stromberg’s 2020 win, Ward 8 was represented by Adam Roof, who now chairs the Burlington Democratic Party.
