For the first time, the state has reported the number of patients who have recovered from Covid-19: 706.

The number represents about three-quarters of the Covid-19 cases identified in Vermont, according to the Department of Health website. Vermont has had 908 people test positive for the coronavirus since the start of the crisis.

At a press conference Wednesday, DOH Commissioner Mark Levine said the recovered patients number was an estimate, coming from self-reporting from patients or from assuming someone has recovered 30 days since their positive test.

โ€œThat category is comprised of people who have tested positive for Covid-19, and actually report to us at the health department in one of our contacts with them later in their course, that they have indeed recovered, or that 30 days or more have elapsed since the day that they were diagnosed,โ€ Levine said.

In previous press conferences, the state has said they could not provide the number of recovered patients because they could not track down each individual case.

Wednesday’s numbers included one new case over the day before. There were no new deaths, with the total number of deaths at 52 since the start of the crisis. The low numbers represent a continuance of the low case numbers over the past few weeks, including declining hospitalizations.

Several nearby states have also begun to report declining new case numbers, including New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut. But those states have still had thousands more cases than Vermont has reported.
