[P]resident Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka, and his son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner, are vacationing in Vermont.

The New York Times reported that the couple were in the Green Mountain State on Wednesday, after initially indicating their destination as Croatia. It is unclear where in Vermont they might be, or what their plans entail.

Ethan Latour, Gov. Phil Scott’s director of policy and communications, said the governor’s office was not aware of the couple’s private vacation plans. Latour told VTDigger that the office had not heard from them, and had no plans to meet.

Vermont State Police spokesman Scott Waterman declined to comment on security efforts, citing policy.

“Per internal policy the Vermont State Police does not comment on any ongoing security operations, plans or procedures,” he wrote in an email.

Kushner and Ivanka Trump’s vacation took place while the White House responded to violence and white supremacist rallies in Charlottesville, Virginia. Ivanka Trump and Kushner are seen as key advisors to the president and have been viewed by many as a moderating voice in the administration.

Vermont Democratic Party Chair Faisal Gill issued a statement on Wednesday criticizing the president’s response to the violence.

“The president’s conduct over the past few days only reinforces that he is unworthy of the office and unfit to protect the people he represents,” he wrote. “Now, more than ever, we must come together and speak out against both those who preach hate and those who condone their actions.”

A group protesting Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner’s visit gathered in Waitsfield Wednesday night.
