[A]bout 100 employers are scheduled to attend a job fair Tuesday in South Burlington to recruit workers, and the Department of Labor says it will help job-seekers build interview and resume-writing skills.
The fair will be at the Sheraton Burlington Hotel and Conference Center on Williston Road from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. There will be free parking available for job-seekers.
Many of the employers come from Franklin, Chittenden, Lamoille, Washington and Orange counties. Any employer who attends must have openings.
Annie Noonan, commissioner of the Department of Labor, said the state has not held a job fair of this size since 2013. The fastest-growing industries, which are recruiting new people, include advanced manufacturing, information technology and health care, according to Noonan.
“We just think it’s a great opportunity for people who are looking for work to walk around, meet with businesses, hand out their resumes,” she said. “We’re going to be doing resume workshops and interview workshops.”
UVM Medical Center is hiring for 162 positions. Clinical, nonclinical, full-time and part-time positions are open, according to Mike Noble, a spokesperson.
The Department of Labor will staff a table for the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, which has hundreds of openings. Central Vermont Medical Center and the Visiting Nurse Association are also hiring. Vermont Health Connect is hiring an administrative services manager and a clerk.
Darn Tough Socks in Northfield is looking for a software developer and marketing manager, plus another five manufacturing workers who need a high school diploma.
Green Mountain Power has an opening for an IT security manager and a mechanic, according to Kristin Carlson, the company’s spokesperson.
Keurig Green Mountain, Country Home Products, GlobalFoundries, AgriMark, Ben & Jerry’s, Dynapower, General Dynamics, Flex-A-Seal, Comcast, the Howard Center and Dealer.com are more of the private employers on the list.
Also attending will be government agencies including the Chittenden County Transit Authority, the Vermont Agency of Transportation, the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
Hospitality companies include Jay Peak Resort, Q Burke Resort, Smugglers Notch and Sugarbush. Educational employers include St. Michael’s College, the University of Vermont and the Community College of Vermont.
Noonan said the state holds regional job fairs on a regular basis, which are much smaller, and will hold more job-training events in Rutland in the future.
