For a small state, Vermont has a remarkably strong network of local news outlets, most of them independently owned and deeply rooted in their communities.
Join us on April 9th at Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier for a screening of Reimagining Local News, a film about communities around the country finding creative new ways to support local news.
After the film, stay for a conversation with leaders from The Bridge, VTDigger, and the Vermont Journalism Coalition about the future of local news in Vermont and how you can be part of it.
The Vermont Community Foundation supports this work through Press Forward Vermont, part of a national movement to strengthen local news from the ground up.
“Local news tells you when the road is closed, when the school board is meeting, when your neighbor wins an award. Multiply that by every town in Vermont and you start to see what we’d be missing,” said Jessie Schmidt, Director of Strategic Initiatives at the Vermont Community Foundation. “Local News Day is a chance to learn how we can show up for the newsrooms that show up for us.”
