Dear Readers,

VTDigger exists because of reader donations. We’ve never charged a subscription fee and we’ve never received federal funding. Our reporting is available to everyone because supporters believe that an informed public matters.

We’re writing as we approach our Year End Drive, the most critical time of year for our operations. In the coming weeks, you’ll see messages across our site and newsletters asking for your support. We wouldn’t ask if we didn’t truly need it. If readers don’t chip in during this drive, we will not have the resources to continue providing the breadth and depth of coverage you count on. It’s that simple.

Every investigation, every daily story, every reporter’s salary is made possible by supporters like you.

The truth is that each month more than 500,000 people read VTDigger, but only about 9,500 generous readers (or fewer than 2%) donate each year to fund the majority of our operating expenses. We’re deeply grateful to everyone who makes this work possible. But to sustain this public service, we need everyone’s help.

We don’t have corporate owners and we refuse to put our journalism behind a paywall because all Vermonters deserve access to the facts. That commitment only works if those who can give, do so generously.

If you rely on VTDigger to understand what’s happening in your community and how decisions in Montpelier and Washington shape your life, please donate now.

Your gift isn’t extra. It’s essential. It’s the difference between sustaining strong, independent journalism in Vermont or losing it.

Your year-end gift makes possible:

  • Investigative reporting that holds public officials and institutions accountable
  • Daily coverage of state government, education, the environment, health care, business and more
  • Clear, accessible explainers and data reporting that help you make informed decisions
  • Open access to trustworthy news for every Vermonter, regardless of ability to pay

Thank you for reading, for believing that facts matter and for giving what you can to keep this work going.

With deep gratitude,

Sky Barsch, CEO
