The University of Vermont Health Network has tapped Bob Ortmyer, a veteran health care administrator, to be the president of both Porter Medical Center and Elizabethtown Community Hospital.
Ortmyer had already been overseeing both institutions. He has been the president of the Elizabethtown Community Hospital, a small hospital system in northern New York, since 2021, and the interim president and chief operating officer of Middleburyโs Porter Medical Center since September.
Now, he will take the helm as the official president of the two University of Vermont Health Network hospitals.
โWe are already benefiting from shared key roles as well as services and providers, and our continued partnership will help improve access and high quality care for our patients on both sides of Lake Champlain,โ Ortmyer said in a Tuesday press release. โI am committed to strengthening and building on those bonds.โ
The Elizabethtown Community Hospital system includes a hospital in Elizabethtown, another in Ticonderoga, and six community health centers.
The system sits across Lake Champlain from Porter Medical Center, in what UVM Health Network described in the press release as its โsouthern region.โ
The hospitals share both patients and care providers. Porter OB/GYN and cardiology practitioners practice at the Ticonderoga hospital, and some patients at Porter receive radiology treatments in Ticonderoga, according to UVM Health Network.
