Dear reader,

People tell me they turn to VTDigger for trusted reporting that explains complicated policies and brings people together with a shared understanding of the facts. Recently, VTDigger was recognized for excellence second only to the Boston Globe by the New England Newspaper & Press Association.

Today, you can support this kind of journalism and inspire a love for storytelling among the news readers of tomorrow with one simple action

Support VTDigger’s original reporting this spring and you will also send one brand-new children’s book to a Vermont child. We’re very close to sending the first 1,000 books of our 3,000 book goal. Will you join us?

I love Vermont and the Digger enriches my world and contributes to public accountability. We need more Diggers in this country!

Because we at VTDigger believe that a more informed Vermont is a smarter Vermont, it matters to us that children have the opportunity to fall in love with reading.

The reality is that new children’s books are a luxury many Vermont families can’t afford. The Children’s Literacy Foundation (CLiF) is a Vermont nonprofit that provides free, inspiring literacy programs and brand new books for children up to age 12. Over the past 25 years, CLiF has served over 350,000 children in more than 400 towns in Vermont and New Hampshire.

Often the books a child receives from CLiF are the first they have ever owned.

We’re proud to be partnering with CLiF to send 3,000 brand-new books to Vermont children in just three weeks. Each member donation to VTDigger sends one book.

I read your news every morning; I write for young readers, and CLiF is a great organization! Thanks for supporting their work.
