Charlie Aronovici, 73, died early Saturday morning, March 2, 2024 at Maple Ridge Memory Care clinic after an extended illness.

He was born October 25, 1950 in New York City to Serge and Mira Aronovici, both Romanian immigrants to the U.S. The family settled in Sellersville, PA. Charlie was the oldest of their three children. He attended Our Ladies of Mercy Catholic School in Perkasie, PA (primary school) and had memories of being the lone Episcopalian at the school.

At age 10, Charlie’s mom Mira decided to move back to Romania leaving Charlie’s dad as his sole custodial parent. They eventually settled in Venice, California where he attended high school and two years of junior college. Charlie had fond memories of Jim and Sandy Swan who were like surrogate parents to him while living in Venice. In fact, Jim and Sandy introduced Charlie to the love of his life, Frances โ€œFranโ€ Maxim. After Fran and Charlie married, Fran’s best friend at the time was instrumental in giving them a delightful wedding present: a two week cruise, first class.

Fran had two sons from a previous marriage, Jeff and Chris Maxim who also became a part of Charlie’s life.

Charlie was an avid sailor and loved taking out his Cal 25 sailing boat on the Pacific Ocean. He had many sailing adventures while living in California.

Charlie and Fran moved to the east coast and settled in Scituate, MA. Charlie worked in marketing and real estate. Eventually they bought a camp in Belvedere, VT and soon fell in love with the Vermont lifestyle. Upon their trips from Scituate to Belvedere, they discovered Hyde Park where they moved in 2002. In Vermont, Charlie lived a life filled with ski patrolling at Stowe Mountain Resort, working in real estate, photography and mountain biking. Additionally, Charlie was a volunteer in Hyde Park, serving as a Trustee of the village, a member of the Development Review Board, as well as a mentor at Hyde Park Elementary. He was also instrumental in placing doggie bags throughout the village for the convenience of dog walkers to help ensure that they would clean up after their dogs.

Charlie is pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Fran Aronovici and step-son Chris Maxim. Charlie is succeeded by his step-son, Jeff Maxim and his wife Maria of Hawai’i and grandsons Tom and Sam Maxim and their mother, Melissa Flygare, of Braintree, MA.

There will be a celebration of the lives of Charlie and Fran Aronovici held in June.
