Incumbent Jack McCullough has won the election for mayor of Montpelier over his competitors Dan Jones and Carlton Anderson.ย

McCullough received 1,441 votes, Jones 994 votes and Anderson 182 votes.

McCullough was first elected as mayor in 2023 after serving on the City Council for several years. This is the second time he has faced a challenge from Jones, a longtime climate activist in the city.

They also faced a challenge from Anderson, a local artist who serves on the cityโ€™s planning commission.

The race was heavily influenced by last summerโ€™s historic flooding, which devastated the capital, and competing visions for how to move forward. McCullough advocated a patient and steady approach, while Jones vouched for upending the โ€œstatus quo.โ€

Adrienne Gil also won the District 1 City Council race over challengers Nat Frothingham and incumbent Dona Bate, in the only competitive race on the council.

Voters agreed to adopt the city budget by a vote of 1,935-771, but rejected the school budget 1,507-1,214. The cityโ€™s counterpart in the district, Roxbury, had yet to report vote totals around 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
