A cyberattack against one of the countryโ€™s largest prescription processors has impacted pharmacies and providers across Vermont and New England.ย

The โ€œoutageโ€ is expected to continue through the weekend after Change Healthcare โ€” part of insurer UnitedHealth Groupโ€™s Optum business โ€” was hit by the cyberattack, according to a Friday evening press release from the Department of Vermont Health Access.

Change Healthcare operates Vermontโ€™s Medicaid pharmacy claims system. Optum has not provided a timeline for when the service will be restored, the release stated.

โ€œWe are committed to ensuring that all Vermonters are able to continue to access their prescriptions through Medicaid and are working directly with pharmacies across the state to minimize the impact of this outage,โ€ the department said in the release.

The department said it does not believe that patient information was compromised. It noted that state systems โ€œremain secure.โ€
