There is certainly good reason for Burlingtonians to be cautiously pessimistic about the latest promises made by UVM regarding housing. We know all too well that those horses left the barn a long time ago and continue to wreak havoc on housing affordability and availability in our city.ย ย

This latest promise is to build housing based on future growth. It would be a five-year deal. The most obvious question about this proposal is what will come first, the chicken or the egg? Will UVM student enrollment continue to grow before or only after the housing is built?
If past history is any guide, we should be prepared to be disappointed once again when it comes to UVM and housing.
