Efoiling is an environmentally friendly alternative to using wake boats to create waves for surfing. Efoils are surfboards that are powered by a small underwater electric motor controlled by a handheld controller.
No gas, no oil, no fumes, no noise other than a low-volume hum and, most importantly, no waves created, as the board lifts off the water and rides on an underwater wing. You are, in fact, flying an underwater airplane.
Efoilers can safely share the waters with stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, swimmers and boat operators. A good efoil costs around $13,000, which is much cheaper than a wake boat. A bonus? Efoils are a good physical workout — excellent cross-training for skiing and snowboarding.
