An open house will be held at the Greens’ home at the end of March, the date of which will be announced at a later time.
Frank was born in Denver, Colorado, but he spent most of his early school years in Los Angeles. He graduated from Colorado University with a degree in art history. He earned his master’s degree in education from San Diego State University. He went on to earn a 2nd master’s degree, this time in counseling from Arizona State University, and his Ph.D. from United States International University in psychology and education while working under Carl Rogers. In 1970, Frank accepted a position at Lyndon State College where he became a much-loved education professor. In 2004, he retired from this position. He was awarded the Professor of Humanities Emeritus Status. He served on the Vermont Humanities Board, the Coldecott Committee, and as a panelist on the annual Dorothy Canfield Fisher Children’s Literature competition. Frank also led many literature-based discussion groups in this area.
Frank crossed over to another realm just a few weeks ago, just two weeks short of his 90th birthday. He was a true Renaissance man, kind and generous, with many talents and passions. Frank was a teacher, an artist, a reader, a writer, and a traveler seeking adventure. He loved classic movies, jazz, theater, backgammon, games, and sandcastle competitions. His woodpile was a thing of precision and beauty. The Brussels sprouts game will go down in history (the hated vegetable).
Frank has lived in East Burke with his wife, Michelle, for 40 years. During that time the couple traveled the world and enjoyed long summer days by the lake in the company of family and friends. He worked on art projects, wrote children’s books, and stacked his wood. Summer was also the time to take grandchildren on adventures.
Frank is survived by his children and their partners: Frank Norman Green, III (Suzanne) of Kaneohe, Hawaii; Jeffrey Green (Deirdre) of Priors Dean, England; Samantha Green (John) of Jersey City, New Jersey; Kate Donnelly (Richard) of Burlington, Vermont; Aeron Jackson (Christopher) of San Juan, Puerto Rico; grandchildren Joshua, Nathan, Alexander, Xavier, Harriett, Sam, Kit, Freya, Willow, and Paris.
The image of Frank that will be missed is of him sitting in our garden in the sun on a warm summer day wearing his jaunty straw hat. To have been so loved, to then be so missed…
