Dear reader,

This summerโ€™s flooding was a stark reminder that we all need help sometimes. Iโ€™m so proud of the hard work that our reporters and editors put into bringing you the news then โ€” and every day.

As much as everyone needs reliable information, many Vermonters also need food for their tables.

Thatโ€™s why VTDigger is again partnering with the Vermont Foodbank for our annual end-of-year membership drive. Will you help us send 8,000 meals by Thanksgiving?

The hunger crisis that was triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic has not subsided for many Vermonters as other challenges, including inflation and the floods, continue to buffet our neighbors.

Two in five Vermont residents have faced food insecurity in the past year. With the cold weather setting in, food insecurity can mean having to choose between buying groceries and other vital needs, such as transportation and heat.

VTDigger brings people closer to the important issues of our time by providing fearless investigations and essential news you canโ€™t find anywhere else. The tips, questions and donations we receive from readers fuel our public service journalism. But we canโ€™t do this work without your support.

We are proud to partner with the Vermont Foodbank for our annual membership drive. The organization provides crucial aid, and many recipients of their support are former or future Foodbank donors themselves. This winter, that aid is critical.

You can support local journalism and Vermonters facing hunger by joining VTDigger with a member gift. Will you support two worthy causes today?

With gratitude,

Paul Heintz
