A Hardwick man hospitalized for several days after he was shot at his home died during the weekend at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, according to Vermont State Police.
Robert Marquis, 52, died from a gunshot wound to his head and the manner of death was ruled a homicide, state police said in a press release Monday afternoon. The Vermont Chief Medical Examiner’s performed the autopsy Sunday.
“Mr. Marquis’ family would like the public to know that he was an organ donor, and his decision saved at least three lives,” according to the state police release.
Marquis was shot Wednesday night following an apparent dispute with another man who lived in the same residence, and that man, Donald Brochu Jr., 55, took his own life after crashing his car in Walden less than two hours later, police said Thursday.
Marquis was taken to the medical center in Burlington after the shooting, police said.
An autopsy determined that Brochu died of a gunshot wound to his head and the manner of death was ruled as by suicide, according to police.
