As communities shut down after a rainstorm swept through Vermont this week, municipalities established emergency shelters in many parts of the state. 

Officials emphasized that Vermonters should not take risks and should make every effort to be safe.

Below is a list of all known emergency and drying shelters in each county of Vermont. The information in this list is sourced from Green Mountain United Way, 2-1-1 Vermont and local government officials. 

Town shelters are open to residents of the towns in which they are located, according to 2-1-1. The Barre Auditorium, Hartford High School, Northern Vermont University in Johnson, and Rutland Senior High School are open to residents of any county.
