An excavator ruptured a gas line on The University of Vermont campus Wednesday morning, forcing the evacuation of six buildings, the university said in a press release.
Construction crews reported the gas line break around 10:15 a.m. on Carrigan Drive in UVMโs central campus. The Burlington Fire Department, UVM police and Vermont Gas all responded to the scene, UVM spokesman Adam White wrote in the release.
The gas for the area was shut off, and the six buildings in the immediate area were evacuated: Jeffords Hall, Stafford Hall, the Health Sciences Research Facility, the main campus greenhouse, Given Medical Building, and the Rowell Nursing & Allied Health building. โMultiple other buildings in the vicinity were checked and cleared,โ White wrote.
After the gas line was repaired, UVM reopened all the buildings by 2 p.m.
