Burlington Police responded to gunfire that damaged buildings and punctured a nearby gas line early Tuesday morning on Riverside Avenue. Responding officers who evacuated residents said no one was believed to have been injured.

According to the Burlington Police Department, dispatchers received multiple calls around 1 a.m., with callers reporting sounds of gunfire.

Responding officers located evidence of buildings and properties that had been struck by rounds, according to a press release the department issued later Tuesday. The officers blocked off nearby streets in order to tend to a gas line that was leaking after having been struck by a bullet. Police said the Burlington Fire Department arrived on scene to shut off the gas while Vermont Gas sought to repair the line.

Burlington Police said no suspects were immediately taken into custody.
