Dear Reader,

The future of our democracy depends on an informed citizenry. It’s our mission to provide the timely, accurate information readers need to make informed decisions and participate in our democratic process. And we want to ensure that Vermont’s children are given the tools they will need to participate.

For our Spring Member Drive, VTDigger is partnering with the Children’s Literacy Foundation (CLiF) to provide 2,500 books to low-income, rural and at-risk children. Donate to VTDigger in any amount, and a Vermont child will receive a brand new book!

For kids, one of the first steps to becoming an engaged citizen is learning to read. But 60 percent of low-income Vermont families have no children’s books at home. CLiF has provided free and inspiring literacy programs and brand-new books to under-resourced children up to age 12 in almost 85 percent of the communities in New Hampshire and Vermont. For many Vermont kids, the books they receive from CLiF are the first ones they own.

By supporting VTDigger, you not only support an indispensable public service–you also help ensure that future generations can think critically and hold the powerful to account.

With gratitude,

Florencio Terra
