First lady Jill Biden plans to visit South Burlington on Wednesday afternoon as part of a four-state trip to promote President Joe Biden’s economic agenda.

The first lady and Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona expect to visit Beta Technologies with Gov. Phil Scott to discuss career and technical education opportunities in the electric vehicle sector, according to the White House.

The visit is part of the Biden administration’s “Investing in America Tour.” It comes at the end of a four-state swing that will also bring the first lady to Colorado, Michigan and Maine.

Founded in 2017, Beta has quickly become one of Vermont’s fast-growing businesses, with more than 450 employees. The company has been seeking FAA approval for its electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft. More recently, it announced that it will also develop a more conventional electric airplane that would use runways to take off and land.

Correction: Due to an editing error, an earlier version of this story mischaracterized the status of Beta’s electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft.
