A man experiencing homelessness engaged in “threatening and tumultuous” behavior while at the St. Johnsbury Barracks, repeatedly engaging in hate-motivated crimes against troopers of “ethnic origins,” according to a Vermont State Police press release.
Vermont State Police initially responded at 8:20 p.m. on Tuesday to a report of a “suspicious impaired male becoming increasingly aggressive with random people,” who was walking around the town and onto people’s property, causing a disturbance on Park Street in Lyndon.
Jeremy Bathalon, 34, had violated several of his court-ordered conditions, a Vermont State Police investigation revealed, according to a state police press release.
Bathalon was held at the Northeast Regional Correctional Facility until he was sober, and is now being lodged at Northeastern Correctional Facility to detox.
He was ordered to appear at Vermont Superior Court in Caledonia County’s Criminal Division at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday to respond to the charges for violation of three conditions, hate-motivated crime and disorderly conduct.
