U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., has once again endorsed Progressive/Democrat David Zuckerman to be Vermont’s lieutenant governor.

Zuckerman served two terms as LG before challenging Republican Gov. Phil Scott in the 2020 gubernatorial race. Zuckerman was unsuccessful in ousting America’s second-most-popular governor, and now he wants his old job back.

Sanders is a perennial endorser of Zuckerman’s, having backed his lieutenant governor campaigns in 2016 and 2018, and his gubernatorial campaign in 2020. In a news release Monday, Vermont’s junior senator said Zuckerman “did an excellent job” during his four years in the first-floor Statehouse office.

“At a time when so many of our people are hurting, we need a Lieutenant Governor in Montpelier with experience who will help lead the fight for economic, racial, social and environmental justice,” Sanders said. “David is that person and I am proud to endorse him.”

According to a recent poll conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center, 38% of likely voters surveyed said they would vote for Zuckerman in the Democratic primary for lieutenant governor. His closest competitor in the four-way race, former state Rep. Kitty Toll, polled at 23%. Twenty-three percent said they remained undecided. The margin of error was 5%.
