Gov. Phil Scott announced Monday that $1 million in grants is available to install electric vehicle chargers at multifamily affordable housing buildings.
The grants will fund 84 charging ports at 37 locations across Vermont.
“This was a pilot program, and we didn’t know what the demand would be,” said Josh Hanford, commissioner of the state Agency of Housing and Community Development, in a press release. “The geographic spread of applications and diversity of housing types that applied was impressive and showed us that there is a high level of interest in providing EV charging for multiunit residents statewide, which resulted in additional funds to continue the program.”
In addition to the $1 million in grants announced Monday, Scott has approved $3 million for electric vehicle chargers at multifamily buildings, or about 30% of the total the state is spending on electric vehicle chargers for community charging. Besides multifamily buildings, community chargers are expected to be installed at workplaces and other places within communities.
