Elizabeth Warren, the Massachusetts senator and former presidential candidate, has endorsed state Sen. Becca Balint’s congressional bid.

The progressive Democratic senator, in her endorsement message Tuesday, highlighted Balint’s legislative experience on abortion protections, raising Vermont’s minimum wage, and gun control measures. She called Balint a “champion for labor and all working people.”

“Her record shows she works for the people, not corporate interests,” Warren said. “Becca has the experience, the record, and the grit to fight for families in Washington. That’s what we need.”

Warren’s endorsement follows Vermont U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders’ endorsement of Balint earlier this month.

Tuesday’s endorsement also marks a change of heart for Warren; she endorsed Lt. Gov. Molly Gray’s lieutenant gubernatorial campaign in 2020. Gray is Balint’s chief rival in the Democratic primary race for Vermont’s lone seat in the U.S. House.
