Train traffic was temporarily suspended due to a suspicious-looking firework found in a birdhouse in Charlotte on Monday.
Vermont State Police responded to a report from Vermont Rail System regarding a possible grenade at about 10:30 a.m. Rail traffic, which only consisted of freight trains at the time, was delayed for roughly two hours as a result.
After an assessment, the item was identified as firework remnants.
The device was found in a birdhouse adjacent to the railway and a service path at Ferry Road in Charlotte. State troopers and Bomb Squad personnel determined that the item had a plastic exterior and did not contain the fusing system of a grenade.
The incident is still under investigation, according to Vermont State Police.
