A person was shot in the head while exchanging fire during a shootout in City Hall Park early Monday morning, according to a Friday evening Burlington Police Department press release.

That person is expected to recover, according to the press release. The release indicated officers provided medical assistance before the wounded person was transported to University of Vermont Medical Center. Police previously said the wounded individualโ€™s friend had called emergency services.

Police said their initial investigation shows that the wounded person and another individual were involved in a shootout in the park. Bulletholes were left in the storefront window of Burton Snowboard and Community Bank, which are both located on College Street. More bullets reportedly shattered a window at the Flynn Theater and damaged a newly erected public restroom in the park.

There were several people in the park during the shootout, according to the release. Police said bullets barely missed a pregnant woman who was near one of the shooters and several people sitting on the City Hall steps reported that they had to duck and cover.

โ€œThere were a lot of rounds expended,โ€ acting Police Chief Jon Murad told VTDigger on Monday.

Police said they are looking for the other gunman and two other people who fled the scene.
