About thirty people gathered in downtown Barre Thursday evening for a vigil to pray for those killed in a school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, on Tuesday. Signs arrayed in an arc with the names of the 19 schoolchildren and two teachers killed were displayed with childrenโ€™s shoes and a rose arranged in front of each sign. The Rev. Leigh McCaffrey and the Rev. Earl Kooperkamp took turns reading the names of the victims, with a long pause between each name. They also read the names of those killed in the recent supermarket shooting in Buffalo, New York. Before and after the recitation, people sang โ€œDona Nobis Pacem,โ€ which means โ€œGrant Us Peaceโ€ in Latin.
