A Burlington woman is being held without bail after police say she pulled out a knife while stealing more than $1,000 in goods from a Church Street store.

Sabrina Kingsbury, 40, was charged with assault and robbery in Chittenden Criminal Court on Tuesday, a day after police used force to arrest her near the Downtown Transit Center, according to a Burlington Police Department press release.ย

Samantha McGinnis, a Church Street Marketplace official, said Kingsbury stole from Black Diamond, a sporting goods store.

Kingsbury allegedly โ€œbrandished a knifeโ€ at the storeโ€™s employees when they attempted to stop her from leaving with the goods, the release said.

After police arrested her and placed her in a cruiser, Kingsbury โ€œstarted to bang her head off the safety barrier equipped in the police cruiser, causing injury to herself,โ€ according to the release. The officers then called the Burlington Fire Department to take Kingsbury to the University of Vermont Medical Center for medical treatment.

Kingsbury has a number of prior criminal convictions, including six that were related to assault, the release said. She has also failed to show up to eight court dates.ย
