Police said the person who was shot and killed in Danby on Wednesday was a teenager from Massachusetts, according to a Friday night press release.

Isaiah Rodriguez, 17, of Springfield, Massachusetts, died of gunshot wounds to the torso, according to an autopsy performed Friday. 

Police are investigating the death as a homicide, according to the release.

Rodriguez was found Thursday morning on the side of Danby Mountain Road between Scallop Drive and Currier Road. Vermont State Police detectives believe he was killed between 10:30 and 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. At the time of his death, Rodriguez was wearing a dark puffy coat with red piping at the bottom, dark pants and slides for footwear, according to an earlier release. 

Police are asking anyone who was traveling on Danby Mountain Road who saw or heard anything to speak with investigators by calling the Rutland barracks at 802-773-9101 or submitting an anonymous tip online.
