Two new cases of Covid have been detected among the general population at the Northeast Correctional Complex in St. Johnsbury, the ​​Vermont Department of Corrections announced Wednesday. 

Both people were symptomatic and are in isolation in a building that is now being used as a quarantine unit. The two new cases occurred in the same building as the three others who tested positive on Monday.

The St. Johnsbury prison complex remains on full lockdown as contact tracing continues. Follow-up testing is planned in coordination with the Department of Health, the release stated.

Another incarcerated person tested positive Tuesday at the Northwest State Correctional Facility in St. Albans. They were released before the results came in, the release stated.

As of Wednesday afternoon, 14 incarcerated people were positive for the virus across five DOC facilities. Statewide, 48 staff members tested positive across six correctional facilities and six field offices, the release stated.
