As Vermont hit record-high Covid-19 case counts in the past two weeks, the spread of the post-Thanksgiving surge broadened across the state โ with almost half of its communities affected, according to the latest town-by-town data from the state Department of Health.
The department reported 111 communities are in the highest category of case spread, defined as more than 80 cases per 10,000 people in the past two weeks. That includes Colchester, Rutland city, Bennington, Brattleboro, Milton, Hartford and 10 other communities with more than 5,000 residents.
No particular region has been completely spared from the virus, but southern Vermont counties had the highest case rates, followed by Northeast Kingdom counties, and by Addison County and Franklin County.
