Two men were shot and killed Saturday night in Alburgh and another man was injured after a weeklong dispute over hunting access, Vermont State Police said.

“Based on preliminary information, investigators have learned that the shooting arose from an ongoing dispute between two men over access to a property for hunting. The dispute was reported to have been escalating for about a week and culminated in Saturday night’s shooting,” state police said in a Sunday afternoon press release.

Police responded to a reported shooting at a home on Cameron Drive around 10 p.m. Saturday, according to the release. David Mohamed, 51, and Larry P. Cameron, 41, were dead when first responders arrived. Devin Cameron, 27, was transported to University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington for treatment. Vermont State Police Capt. Scott Dunlap said in a press conference Sunday afternoon that Cameron is in “critical but stable” condition.

There is “no ongoing threat to public safety” and “all parties involved in the shooting are accounted for,” police said in the release. Dunlap said that the victims, who are all Alburgh residents, were known to each other.

“We’re still looking into everything right now as far as trying to sort out what happened,” Dunlap said. Police have said no one is in custody in connection with the shooting. Dunlap said the crime scene search team arrived on location mid-morning Sunday to process the scene.

Grand Isle County State’s Attorney Doug DiSabito said they have identified two witnesses to the shooting.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents were the first to the scene and rendered first aid to Devin Cameron.

“The bodies will be brought to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington for autopsies to determine the cause and manner of death,” police said in the press release. Dunlap said he expects the autopsies to begin Monday.
