A total of 400 people have died in Vermont since the beginning of the pandemic, according to data released by the state Department of Health on Thursday.

The state disclosed two new deaths in its daily data update. Twenty-four people have died so far in November.

The department also reported 517 new Covid-19 cases Thursday, the second-highest one-day total. The record was set a week ago when 595 cases were reported Nov. 11.

With the latest data included, the seven-day case average now sits at 352 cases per day, slightly lower than the peak of 369 cases per day hit a few days ago.

Thursdayโ€™s data included a relatively high number of tests โ€” more than 15,000 tests in a single day โ€” which may explain why cases were higher than they were in previous days. However, the seven-day positivity rate is 4.2%, one of the highest rates since the beginning of the pandemic.ย

Overall, the stateโ€™s cases have risen 70% in the past 14 days.

Sixty-two people are in the hospital with the virus, including 13 in intensive care units. Hospitalizations have remained mostly level despite the increase in cases, with a roughly 6% increase over the past 14 days.
