Covid-19 vaccine eligibility and appointments have officially opened for children ages 5 to 11.

The state is well positioned to reach its goal of vaccinating at least 80 percent of the 44,000 kids that are newly eligible in the next eight weeks — but the pediatric effort still faces both logistical hurdles and apprehension from some parents.

VTDigger is hosting a virtual event with medical expert Dr. Judy Orton to answer reader questions about the vaccine and its rollout for Vermont’s youngest age group yet.

Dr. Orton has practiced in Vermont for more than 30 years. She runs Green Mountain Pediatrics in Bennington and previously served as chair of the pediatrics department at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.
