Vermont reported 316 new Covid-19 cases Thursday, the highest one-day total in a week after a pattern of declining case counts. The Department of Health also disclosed two new deaths, raising October’s death count to 31 and the pandemic cumulative total to 360.
The seven-day rolling case average, which hit a recent low of 200 cases per day, has inched up to 208 cases per day. That’s compared with a record 244 average the state hit in mid-October.

Vermont’s cases have fallen 15% in the past two weeks, compared with a national average decline of 19%, according to New York Times data. That has led Vermont to an average of 34 cases per 100,000 in recent weeks, well above the national average of 22 cases per 100,000 people.
The state’s hospitalization rate remains one of the lowest in the nation, with 54 people currently hospitalized with the virus, including 13 in intensive care units. That’s a rate of eight hospitalized patients per 100,000 people, half the national average of 16 per 100,000 people.
