A wedding in Plainfield and Barre Town in late August caused one the stateโ€™s worst Covid-19 outbreaks this summer, but the latest town-by-town data from the Department of Health shows that the situation is improving.

After the wedding on Aug. 26, the Washington County town of Plainfield went from 65 to 85 total cases in just one week. But data from Sept. 8 shows it reported only 13 new cases since then โ€” higher than most communities but a less drastic increase.

Plainfield and nearby Marshfield and Barre City remain in the highest category of spread with more than 80 cases per 10,000 people in the past two weeks.

Joining them are Grand Isle, Newport city, Barton, Granby, Shoreham, Wells, Windsor, Vernon and Waterbury, which reported its own outbreak last month at a summer camp.

Data from the latest report from the Department of Financial Regulation shows that the surge in Chittenden, Franklin and Washington counties has declined over the past few weeks. Washington County still has the highest case rate in the state.

But as those counties decline, other counties are reporting modest but rising case rates. Grand Isle, Bennington and Windham counties have all reported higher numbers in the past two weeks.
